On my group workshops I share easy-to-use techniques that you can start using straight away. You don’t need a posh camera. You’ll learn skills and ideas that work with any type of camera, but you will need a camera that can adjust aperture and shutter settings.
Group half day workshop will last approximately 5 hours (with a break in the middle to change location and/or rest) and is for up to 6 participants and their dogs (you do not need to bring a dog but if you do they must get on with other dogs).
Here's what the workshops cover:
Making the best of lighting - with the light (direct sun) and towards the light (to get silhouettes) at sunset
How to engage your dog and keep them interested - action shots and portraits
The use of angles and different lenses (if you have them).
Making the most of the locations, using all aspects as backdrops and props.
FAQs
How much does it cost?
£80. Payable in advance through my site.
Location
Mostly I do group workshops in Exmouth in Devon, South Cornwall or Brighton, but I do travel UK wide subject to demand so if you and a few friends would like me to visit you for a workshop then get in touch. This year I am adding Bude and North Devon to my dates.
What if the weather is poor?
We can do the workshops in lots of weather conditions but if it's due to rain heavily we will postpone. In rare cases where I have to cancel or postpone you can either have your money back (less expenses of 10%), book in for the next date or have a credit note for any of my other services or workshops elsewhere.
What are the times?
We aim to finish around sunset time if it's a sunny day but if it's cloudy it will be a bit earlier. The time depends on the time of year. I check the weather a couple of days before to confirm.
Do I need to bring a dog?
No. I can provide models and others will likely bring dogs, but you must let me know if you are not bringing a dog so that if we are running short I can get some models to accompany us. All dogs that attend must get along with other dogs. We can't have any squabbles. The workshops are designed to be fun and relaxed and the needs of all the dogs in attendance always comes first.
Do I need any photography skills?
Not really, but it would be handy if you know how to adjust aperture, shutter and ISO on your camera. If you don't know what these mean I can explain but there is, of course, less time for this on a group workshop. If you are a complete beginner you might want to consider a 1-1, but don't let this put you off, I have had complete beginners attend these workshops and get a lot out of them. Please bring your manual if you need to but I won’t have a lot of time to go through it with you.
Do you offer any extra support?
Yes. Once you have completed the workshop you are welcome to send me up to 6 images from the workshop for analysis and help.

"Had a fantastic time and I learned so much from Rhian and her teaching was not only informative but fun too. Highly recommend these courses for anyone who wants to take the best photos of their fur babes."
“I learned so much in the space of a few hours. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it but Rhian’s explanations were clear and made perfect sense. I loved it, thank you!”
