FIRST AND FOREMOST, the most important aspect of my photo shoots is that the dogs have fun. I want to create happy and special memories for you to keep of you and your best friend to treasure forever, capturing the adventures you have together. 

Your dog won’t have to sit still and pose politely for the photo. In fact, the more they behave like a real dog, the better the shot. As a dog photographer, I always work in the open air - we’ll go anywhere your dog feels safe and secure, where they can scamper about and play.

What is the format of a photo shoot?

The process roughly goes like this:

• You book and tell me about your dog, their needs and where they like to go

• I can advise on suitable locations

• We meet and do the shoot (relaxed, informal and always fun) which is tailored to exactly what your dog likes to do, running around or simply posing and looking cute, whatever they like

• I try and get as wide a variety of shots as possible and include you in the process

• I edit the photos and upload the best to your own gallery

• You order prints, gifts etc and use your credit code

• The gallery remains in place should you or a friend wish to buy products any time in the future, however after two months I reduce the numbers in your gallery to make space, but I will let you know.

How much is a shoot?

These prices are for locations in Devon and Cornwall only. Outside of these two counties I consider being on tour so shoots are booked under the UK TOUR price range. The prices are divided into the shoot price and the prints price.
Shoot prices are as follows:
£150 for 1-2 dogs, with £50 credit to spend on prints etc
£175 for 3-4 dogs, with £50 credit to spend on prints etc

Print packages start at £150 - this is the minimum spend that needs to be reached on an order after a shoot: prints/framed prints/canvas/book and digital portraits are available to purchase. You can use your credit towards any order. Once you have placed an order should you come back in the future to place another order that second order does not need to meet the minimum spend threshold.

I'm not sure I have the right kind of dog for a photo shoot.

Yes, you absolutely do. I've been asked so many times is it ok to photograph a dog who a person thinks is too young, too old, too active, too inactive, too distracted, too nervous, too much of a wanderer, too sociable, too unsociable! The list goes on. I have photographed over 1000 dogs of all manner of different personalities and demeanours and all you need to do is to find their motivation, be patient, have a sense of humour and let them be themselves. Location is also vital and if you are concerned we can have a good chat about it in the shoot planning stage.

Can you photograph my puppy?

Absolutely! I adore puppies and you don't have to worry about them not being trained or able to sit and stay etc. The most important thing about my shoots is that dogs are safe and happy and have fun, so we'll let them do just that. How many photos will I get?

You never know what will happen on a shoot so I don't offer a minimum nor maximum. Roughly it's around 30-40 for Shoot 1 and 40-50 for Shoot 2 but it can be more or less depending on what happens on the day.

How much do prints cost after the shoot?

Each shoot comes with credit you can use to purchase prints etc after the shoot. What’s the best time of year for a session?

There are great opportunities all year round and what time of year you choose to book will depend on what type of photos you are after. You may like the bluebells in the woods in spring, the wild flowers of summer or the fallen leaves of Autumn. The beach, for example, looks the same all year round but the water is certainly more chilly in the winter, but in my opinion there is nothing that beats winter sunlight.

What is the best time of day for a photo session?

Lighting conditions are most often best for photography early in the day or a couple of hours before sunset. In the middle of the day lighting can be quite harsh, especially if it’s a blazing hot day. Also, when it gets warmer, the middle of the day can become too hot for some breeds if we are not under any cover. Basically, I will make an assessment of your breed of dog, the time of year and where we are due to go for the session to decide what is the most appropriate time.

Can the whole family come to the session?

Yes, of course you can bring along who you like, but try to keep numbers to a minimum so your dog doesn’t get too distracted by too many people. Two is an ideal number on the shoot because you can call your dog between you. You can bring your children to the shoot and I can photograph the whole family with your dog too. Please be aware that sometimes younger children can get distracted or bored on a shoot and your attention may need to be on them. If you can bring some extra help for younger children then it is a good idea.

What locations do you work in?

I live between Exmouth, Devon and near Helston, Cornwall so mainly work in the south west but I travel every 6 weeks to Brighton/Sussex so offer shoots and workshops there, too. I can also offer shoots in between these locations. I do also go on longer trips in the spring and summer months - check out my UK tour for info. Travel fees are therefore in general based from Exmouth or Helston. I charge 50p per mile from these locations if the location is more than 10 miles from either location, in which case I charge for the whole trip. When in Brighton I travel all across Sussex, Kent and Surrey but I do not cover London. UK tour costs in this area include travel if within 50 miles of Brighton.

You say you travel across the UK?

Yes, from March to October I do longer trips around the UK and these are based on demand so feel free to contact me to let me know you want me to visit your area. If I can get a few shoots or workshops in the same area I will visit you. Areas that are local to me include Devon and Cornwall. Anywhere else I consider not local and therefore if you would like to book me for a shoot it would be under my UK tour photo shoot option.

What if the weather is bad?

My basic rule of thumb is that I am happy to photograph in all weathers apart from rain. This is no fun for you, your dog or for my camera. I always check what the weather is doing a couple of days before our shoot and then confirm or rearrange with you. In a situation whereby we meet up for a session and the weather suddenly turns sour, I will decide if the weather is not suitable and we will rearrange another time to meet. Basically, until you get your allocated and paid-for time for photography we will meet up until you have received it, and this won’t cost you any extra.

I have more than four dogs, can I still book a shoot?

I am very happy to photograph any number of dogs (from the same household) and I charge £25 extra on top of the shoot fee per dog. I do not have these options on my website so please contact me for an invoice.

What happens after the session?

Once we have completed the photo session/s, I will then professionally edit the images and will be able to let you view your gallery after 1-2 weeks. This is a really important part of the process and it cannot be rushed. This is why I would never offer you to view the images on the same day as the shoot. Anybody that does, I would question the time and effort that has gone in to your final product. For me, it’s an integral part of the creative process.

Once edited, I will upload a gallery of images to my portfolio site at Photoshelter. From here, you can use your session credit code to get prints or products and also order and pay for any others if you would like to. You can also use the credit towards digital portraits and framed prints, but these are available from me directly and not on the site. If you don’t want to use Photoshelter I am happy to do this for you at no extra charge, although you will need to pay me for the orders you want first. I can go over the options for you after the session on the phone or in person at the session. The gallery stays live for 2 months, after which I reduce the numbers to make space but I always inform customers before doing this.

What is Photoshelter?

Photoshelter provide a fantastic website service for photographers, enabling us to build sites that are great for our customers to browse and purchase images. All orders come via my Photoshelter site through myself and I expedite your order.

My dog's gallery doesn't have the product I want

There probably is but I haven’t included it in my gallery. There are literally hundreds of available options and I didn’t want to confuse clients with too many options. Let me know what you want and I can probably get it for you.

Can I have the images on a CD?

I offer digital portraits of your images for sale, but the these are not included in the session fee. I also do not have a CD burner so downloads are the only option, but they are also much quicker and don't involve waiting for the post to arrive.

Will you do a photo session at my home?

Yes. The only place I don’t take photos is in a studio.

Will you take a photo of me and my dog with my dog on the lead?

Although I do prefer for dogs to be off the lead I understand this may not always be possible and there is still plenty we can do while your dog is on a lead.  If you have a nervous dog perhaps a shoot at your home would be more suitable, where they are most comfortable and chilled out. Or you could borrow a friend's garden if you don't have one, or an enclosed field that you can hire. I then edit leads out of the images that are purchased.

Do you offer framed prints?

Yes, I make these myself. I have a framed prints guide which I can email upon request. ** New for 2024 ** from now on I will only be making my frames out of reclaimed material. I’m so excited to be able to repurpose discarded timber and make something beautiful out of it.

Who owns the copyright?

I retain copyright for all my images, except for pre-agreed commercial shoots. See here for full shoot terms and conditions.
